A grieving family say “no words can describe our pain” after a 12-year-old boy was hit and killed by a van in Cornwall. Harrison Palmer, from Camborne, died at the scene of the accident on the A3047 in Pool, near Redruth, at 3.35pm last Monday. A 67-year-old man from Hayle was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and on suspicion of driving whilst unfit. The driver has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries. The family of Harrison have said that they are “truly heartbroken” following his death but thanked the emergency services and public who helped at the scene of the accident. Google Maps) “We are devastated and truly heartbroken over the loss of our beautiful boy Harrison. No words can describe our pain,” they said. “We want to thank all of the emergency services and members of the community who did all they could. “We are also very grateful for the love, support and condolences that we have received since.” Devon and Cornwall
police added that the family had asked for “privacy as they grieve and come to terms with their loss”. The force stated: “Harrison Palmer, 12, from Camborne, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the single-vehicle collision, which happened on the A3047 Agar Road junction with Wilson Way, Pool, near Redruth, at around 3.35pm.” It continued: “Officers continue to make enquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision. "A 67-year-old man from Hayle has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and on suspicion of driving whilst unfit. He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries. "Anyone who has any information is asked to contact police via our website here or by calling 101 quoting reference number 50230058989." A spokesperson for the force previously said: "The road was closed for some time to allow an investigation to take place, led by the Roads Policing Team. It was reopened at around 1am on Tuesday, March 14." They added that members of the public should expect to local officers undertaking "high visibility patrols at the start and end of the school day" in the area for the next few days to provide reassurance.
