Watch John Cena Shoot A Helicopter Out Of The Sky In New Movie Trailer
Aug 21, 2023
Director Pierre Morel, known for Taken, is switching gears with his latest film, Freelance. Relativity Media has dropped a new trailer for the movie, which boasts over-the-top humor that parallels its high-octane stunts.Freelance stars Alison Brie (Community, GLOW) as a disgraced journalist who heads to Colombia for a high-stakes interview with a local dictator, played by Juan Pablo Raba (Agents of SHIELD, Narcos). To ensure her safety, she enlists the help of a reluctant private security guard played by John Cena (Barbie, The Suicide Squad). However, their plans go awry after a sudden military coup, and the unlikely trio finds themselves on the run in a wild adventure and depending on each other for survival. Check out the trailer below.Brie told People that Freelance features "crazy horse stunts" that required "a number of stunt doubles," and that audiences can expect a lot of wild action setpieces. "We did shoot scenes where we're going through a river, this rapids river, and I'm up to my neck in the water and stuff like that, which is really fun and adventurous," Brie said. "Honestly, sometimes just a regular day shooting in the jungle feels like doing your own stunts because there's an interesting terrain and wildlife that you're navigating. But it was really fun."Alice Eve (Black Mirror) and Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) also star.Produced by Renee Tab, Christopher Tuffin, Steve Richards, Christopher Milburn, and Danny H. Chan, Freelance promises a fun blend of action and comedy.Freelance is set to hit theaters on October 9.

Gran Turismo's New Movie Trailer Is Here, And Did You Know It's Based On A True Story?
Jul 20, 2023
A movie based on the PlayStation game series Gran Turismo is in the works, and the latest trailer has now arrived. The movie is based on the true story of a person who was inspired to become a real race car driver after playing Gran Turismo. The trailer really hammers this home, with graphics spliced in between the footage that state that this is an "insane true story" that "actually happened."The movie stars Archie Madekwe as a "working class gamer" who teams up with a former driver played by David Harbour to learn the ropes. It looks like Orlando Bloom is playing the villain, an "idealistic" motorsport executive. Oscar-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator, Blood Diamond) plays a character who believes the teen is wasting his time. "You think you can play a stupid video game about cars and you're gonna become a race car driver?!" he says in the video.Neill Blomkamp, who directed the cult classic sci-fi movie District 9, is directing Gran Turismo. The screenplay was written by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin based on a story by Hall and Alex Tse.Kazunori Yamauchi, the director of the Gran Turismo series and boss of developer Polyphony Digital, is an executive producer on the film, alongside Hermen Hulst from PlayStation Studios.Gran Turismo releases in theaters on August 11.The Gran Turismo movie is produced in part by PlayStation Productions, the film and TV division of the gaming giant. In addition to Gran Turismo, PlayStation Productions is behind the upcoming Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima movies, as well as the upcoming Twisted Metal, God of War, and Horizon TV series, as well as Season 2 of The Last of Us.

Cillian Murphy on Oppenheimer, sex scenes and self-doubt: ‘I’m stubborn and lacking in confidence – a terrible combination’
Jul 08, 2023
If Peaky Blinders made the Irish actor a household name, will Christopher Nolan’s nuclear blockbuster send him into the stratosphere? He talks about extreme weight loss, hating school and why his next character won’t be a smoker Cillian Murphy is struggling with what he can and can’t say about his title role in Oppenheimer, the latest Christopher Nolan epic, such is the secrecy surrounding this film. Murphy is under “strict instructions” not to talk about the content. Which is awkward when you’ve flown to his home in Ireland to interview him specifically about playing the physicist who oversaw the creation of the atomic bomb, later detonated over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It’s not clear who issued these instructions. Nolan? The studio? The US government? All I know is that as well as Murphy being gagged by hefty NDAs, I am not allowed to see it (“bit unfortunate”, he concedes). So, yes, here we sit in an empty upstairs room of a restaurant near his house in Monkstown, Dublin, working out how to do this. The room is dark, the sun shining through a solitary Velux lighting his features like a Géricault. The only background noise is the low hum of a wine refrigerator. Murphy loathes interviews, looks visibly tortured at points. But he relaxes when I ask if he’s pleased with Oppenheimer. “I am, yeah,” he says. “I don’t like watching myself – it’s like, ‘Oh, fucking hell’ – but it’s an extraordinary piece of work. Very provocative and powerful. It feels sometimes like a biopic, sometimes like a thriller, sometimes like a horror. It’s going to knock people out,” he adds. “What [Nolan] does with film, it fucks you up a little bit.” Continue reading...

‘It had to be totally bananas’: Greta Gerwig on bringing Barbie to life
Jul 09, 2023
Greta Gerwig’s subtle and beautifully nuanced touch has led to her being hailed as one of Hollywood’s greatest directors. But when she got her teeth into Barbie, she went all-out massive, pink and ‘completely unhinged’One night in April, a stranger I met in a pub pulled out his phone and showed me pictures of something he was working on. We were in a town near to the Leavesden film studios, where the stranger had been constructing sets for Barbie, a film co-written and directed by the American filmmaker Greta Gerwig. “You have to see this,” the man said, before presenting images of a hot-pink, human-sized Barbieland, a place he described as an antidote to our hideously cold winter. Rain was forecast the following day, and even colder cold, but the stranger couldn’t care less. He would be a world away. When I tell Gerwig this story, over Zoom, one day in June, her large eyes brighten. “That makes me feel like a proud mama!” she says, and, “Gosh, that makes me tear up.” Over the hour we spend together, while she sits in Manhattan, in a room she describes as “half office, half baby nursery,” this is the kind of pronounced buoyancy I come to expect from her. Even when I suggest the stranger perhaps shouldn’t have shown me the pictures – the set being locked down, me being a journalist – Gerwig says, in a wink-wink tone, “But I love that he felt he wanted to.” Continue reading...

Raye review – a triumphant act of independence and naked ambition
Sep 27, 2023
Royal Albert Hall, LondonBacked by the Heritage Orchestra, Raye’s hard-fought songs have extra drama, especially when, with radical vulnerability, she sings in her underwear‘No string section, no tiny violin,” goes Raye’s Oscar Winning Tears. She glances over her shoulder and behind her, in a divine sense of irony, is the entire Heritage Orchestra. For one night only at the Royal Albert Hall, the dreams of Rachel Keen are reclaimed in glorious Technicolor: a live, recorded performance of her debut album My 21st Century Blues on a scale befitting the vision she has fought for almost a decade to execute. Having been cuffed to Polydor for seven years, who allowed her (now Mercury-nominated) record to stagnate while they doled out her talents for daiquiri-syrup dance hits, tonight’s operatic reimagining is a triumphant statement of independence. It makes for an incredible collision of worlds: the orchestra bleeds into Raye’s south London DNA, bringing the inherent drama of her music into sharp relief. Fortified by the thrill of strings and an entire choir, the hypnotic dance track Black Mascara reaches biblical levels of retribution. In an album laced with trauma, this musical heft matches the weight of its emotion. Mary Jane, a stripped-back confessional that grapples with addiction, is now replete with lavish saxophone solos and guitar riffs. Raye makes no attempt to hide her enchantment, waving her arms as if conducting the symphony herself, relishing every twist and turn. Punctuated with costume changes from one timeless gown to another, it feels like the realisation of a childhood fantasy. Continue reading...
