Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said Wednesday he would denounce any proposed legal reforms that would bring back criminal defamation statutes or other laws that would impinge on the freedom of expression.

López Obrador's comments came in response to questioning from Denise Dresser, a well-known Mexican journalist, who pressed him to respond to leaked documents from the Attorney General's Office.
“I don't have anything to do with the supposed reform," the president said, noting that the Attorney General's Office is an autonomous entity.
