The return of Netflix's The Crown — and the debut of Olivia Colman's
Queen Elizabeth II — finally has a date.Netflix on Monday morning released a short teaser for the acclaimed series' third season, which is now set to make its return in November, nearly two years after the second season dropped. For seasons one and two, Claire Foy played Queen Elizabeth, but Colman is set to replace her in the role for the third and fourth seasons. Though images of Colman as the Queen had made their way online,
Netflix has now provided the first footage of the season, though at just 21 seconds long, don't expect much to tide you over amid this long wait.Colman is taking on this role in The Crown fresh off of her performance as another queen: Queen Anne in Yorgos Lanthimos's The Favourite, which earned her the Academy Award for Best
Actress in an upset over the expected winner, Glenn Close. Now, Colman scoring an Emmy nomination for The Crown looks like a sure bet even months before the show's return; Foy in 2018 won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for the role. The Crown's third season will also star Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret. It's set to debut on Netflix on Nov. 17.
