Meghan Markle’s first few months after marriage have consisted of a few royal outings and even a trip to George and Amal Clooney’s home in Lake Como, Italy. They have also included a good deal of family drama thanks to her father,
Thomas Markle, and half sister,
Samantha Markle, who have kept tabloids busy.
Thomas, in particular, has been giving TV interviews in which he’s made claims on behalf of Princess Diana, shared Prince Harry’s supposed feelings about Brexit, and claimed to have hung up the phone on his daughter’s royal husband. As Thomas’s reign of terror continued, the emerging consensus was that Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, might be the only person who could stop this mess, as someone in touch with both Meghan and Thomas. Now, a new report from the Daily Mail suggests that the new duchess is hoping her mother will do just that.
Meghan is reportedly making a trip to California to visit friends and family at the end of the summer, ahead of a rumored official U.S. visit with Prince Harry at some later point. A close friend of Meghan’s reportedly told the Mail that she has not wanted to get her mother involved in her father’s tabloid tour—perhaps recognizing that, by divorcing Thomas, Doria has made him decidedly Not Her Problem. But now, Meghan might be reconsidering this decision.
“So far, Meghan‘s mom hasn’t gotten involved, but that may all change when they see each other in person,” the unnamed source told the newspaper. “Meghan has been adamant that her mom not get dragged into all the drama. But if anyone can talk some sense into her dad, it’s Doria. Meghan is now open to the possibility of her mom working some magic behind the scenes.”
Earlier this month, an unidentified source told the Mail that the only reason Meghan has not spoken to her father, a fact he was happy to share with the media, is that “she’s yet to hear from him in a respectful manner . . . Thomas is speaking to the press more than he’s reached out and spoken to his own daughter.”
Will that change? That, and Meghan’s mother’s involvement, are still to be decided.
