POLICE investigating the alleged
rape of a
British holidaymaker in
Magaluf have arrested a
Romanian man.
The suspect, 31, was held after DNA tests on the clothes of the 22-year-old woman who said she had been forced to have sex.
The woman is understood to have told police in Britain she had been raped after returning to the UK last May following her holiday.
The suspect was arrested in a bar in the Majorcan party resort on Wednesday night, and has been remanded in custody.
He appeared before a judge in a closed court hearing yesterday as part of an ongoing criminal probe.
He has denied forcing himself on the tourist in a private room at a nightspot after inviting her to a drink when she became separated from a friend.
The Civil Guard in
Majorca confirmed the arrest, but the suspect's identity has not been made public.
Sources said the alleged rape had happened in Magaluf's notorious Punta Ballena strip last May.
Interpol told Spanish police that the alleged victim filed a complaint with British officers after flying home last year.
Investigators analysed the woman's clothes and found DNA samples from another person, according to Spanish media.
The police are understood to have arrested the suspect, a Romanian national, after identifying him from the DNA samples.
In a separate incident, a British woman was rushed to hospital yesterday after being knocked unconscious in a fight on the Punta Ballena strip.
The area, a notorious party hotspot, is popular with British tourists traveling to Magaluf.
