Lily Allen has hit out at “luvvie” Laurence Fox, urging the former Lewis star to “stick to acting” after he faced a backlash over his opinions about white privilege.
Lily Allen Tells Laurence Fox Stick To Acting Mate After Divisive Question Time Appearance
Earlier this week, Laurence’s appearance on Question Time was received poorly by many viewers, after he suggested that to call him a “white privileged male” was in itself racist.
This came during a conversation about the media’s treatment of Meghan Markle, which he was insistent was not rooted in racism.
“It’s not racism. We’re the most tolerant, lovely country in Europe. It’s so easy to just throw your charge of racism at everybody and it’s starting to get boring now,” he moaned.Since then, he’s doubled down on his opinions, which included posting a quote by Martin Luther King on his Twitter page, which was heavily criticised on social media:This is the position I took last night and I live by in life. If you can improve on it, I’m all ears. Or you can keep screeching “Racist!” at me and I can carry on having a jolly good giggle at your expense. The tide is turning. pic.twitter.com/fFJzkzvFsY— LAURENCE FOX (@LozzaFox) January 17, 2020Among his public critics was singer Lily Allen, who shared a post on her Instagram story, saying she was “sick to death of luvvies like Laurence Fox going on TV and forcing their opinions on everybody else”.She wrote: “He’ll never have to deal with what normal people have had to deal with in his gated community. BBC should be ashamed, this is not what we pay our TV license for.
“Stick to acting mate. Instead of ranting about things you don’t know anything about.”
Laurence quickly dismissed her post, sharing a screengrab on his own Twitter page with the message: “Lily Allen is the most stunningist and bravery artist in the whole wide world.”Lily Allen is the most stunningist and bravery artist in the whole wide world.#stunningandbravepic.twitter.com/CAKFcyMDba— LAURENCE FOX (@LozzaFox) January 18, 2020Although she’s known for posting her opinions about all matter of subjects on Twitter, Lily stepped down from the social media site last year, claiming she was concerned the site had “given a voice to the far-right”.
She said: “I deleted Twitter because I really believe that these platforms have given a voice to the far right, and they use them to spread disinformation and lies, which win them elections and ruin people’s lives. If they didn’t exist we wouldn’t be here.
“I want to delete my Instagram too but I’m just not there yet. I so wish I was.”
The chart-topping singer is still active on Instagram, but has been critical of that platform too, previously suggesting it was something she was fearful of her daughters using in the future.
