Martin Scorsese has wrapped up the
London film festival with a defence of the streaming giant Netflix, who stepped in to finance his new film when other backers dropped out.
Speaking at a press conference before the international premiere of The Irishman, his new film starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci that closes the festival, Scorsese said that while it was vital to defend the “communal experience” of watching films in cinemas,
Netflix were prepared to give him full backing after more traditional studios dropped out.
