If you're not a big fan of cats and/or unsettling CGI, then this movie
trailer is not for you.
If the cat creatures in "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island" gave you nightmares as a child, then this movie trailer is not for you.
And if "what would happen if I put
Taylor Swift's face on a miniature, dancing human-cat hybrid" is a question you'd rather not have answered, then this movie trailer is definitely not for you.
All right, if you're still here, Universal Pictures released the first trailer for "Cats" on Thursday.
"Cats" is an adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's beloved Broadway musical, and features a number of big stars playing computer-generated cat-human hybrids. The cast includes Swift,
James Corden,
Jennifer Hudson,
Jason Derulo and
Judi Dench.
The reception was lukewarm. Two hours after the video was published on YouTube, it garnered nearly as many dislikes (11,000) as likes (12,000), which is not normal for new movie trailers.
"I can't believe the Cats trailer is scarier than the IT trailer," one Twitter user tweeted. The new trailer for the horror film, "It: Chapter Two," was also released Thursday.
Other Twitter users were frightened by many of the actors' human-cat hybrids, particularly the Corden cat.
"James Corden cat looks like the Cat in the Hat's evil twin brother," one user tweeted.
"The James Corden cat is what I see in the corner of my room when I have sleep paralysis," tweeted another.
But one Twitter user put it best with the words of Dr. Ian Malcom's from "Jurassic Park": "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
