GERMAN Chancellor Angela Merkel has said she is prepared to engage in diplomacy to end North Korea’s nuclear missile programme.
And the world leader stepped forward to suggest she could fix the problems US president Donald Trump has grappled with during his time in office by using the policies of his predecessor – Barack Obama.
In 2015, Merkel, Obama and representatives from three other countries took part in talks that led to Iran agreeing to curb its nuclear work in return for the lifting of most sanctions.
Mrs Merkel said: "I could imagine such a format being used to end the North Korea conflict.
"Europe and especially Germany should be prepared to play a very active part in that.”
Speaking of the prospect of stepping into the ring with North Korea, Mrs Merkel said: "If our participation in talks is desired, I will immediately say yes.”
