The
BBC revealed back in February that it was closing down one of its telly-viewing apps with the block now coming into full effect from tomorrow, April 7. The major change means the iPlayer service built for PCs will no longer work and it looks unlikely that it will ever make a return. "We have made the difficult decision to close the BBC iPlayer Downloads application for PC and Mac, due to the low number of people using it and the cost required to keep it going," the BBC explained in a post on its website. The closure has actually been taking place over the past few months with the BBC shutting things down in stage. Back in February the BBC stopped anyone new from installing the PC app onto their devices. Then, last month, users were stopped from watching new content or downloading shows onto their hard drives. Simple Wi-Fi router error, that's easy to make, is slowing down your broadband Now the final shutdown is taking place with all existing downloads being blocked from playback and the app closing for good. It’s worth noting that this won’t stop PC users from watching shows via their web browsers - it’s just the app that won’t work. It also doesn’t affect the BBC’s mobile apps. "This does not affect downloads on the BBC iPlayer mobile or tablet apps, and viewers can continue to stream programmes on BBC iPlayer on their PCs and Macs," the BBC confirmed. Here are the devices affected by the change. • All Windows PCs including those running Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems. • All
Apple computers including the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Forget TV - Sky releases rare MacBook Air deal that's surprisingly affordable If you have things you want to watch downloaded onto your PC then you need to do some serious bingeing before tomorrow as anything downloaded simply won't work. Full timeline of the BBC iPlayer closure From Friday 2 February, the BBC revealed that new users would be unable to download and install the BBC iPlayer Downloads app From Monday 11 March, users could no longer download programmes from the web. Users can still watch any existing downloads until Monday 8 April 2024. From Monday 8 April, the BBC iPlayer Downloads app will be closed.
