DWP Universal Credit payments to rise tomorrow - see how much youll get paid
Millions claiming Universal Credit will see an income boost from this month when benefit payments rise by 6.7 percent. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt confirmed in his Autumn statement last year that a range of benefits would be rising in line with September's inflation figure. Although state pension is going to rise by 8.5 percent due to the triple lock promise. The new payment rates will be introduced from Monday, April 8 - this is the first Monday after the new tax year starts on Saturday, April 6. If your benefits are due to rise, the increased rate will be applied automatically to your monthly payment - you won't need to do anything. Just like last year's increase, it's important to remember that your payments will not increase immediately and claimants will not see the hikes until their May or even June payments arrive. This is due to the assessment period for the benefit. Universal Credit is calculated based on your circumstances each month and these are called your "assessment periods" - if your circumstances change within the assessment period then the amount of Universal Credit you get that month could also change. Your payments will therefore not rise until your first full assessment period after April 8. With this in mind, below we have listed all the Universal Credit increases claimants will see this year.
