CLEVELAND, OH (WNCN) — The Final Four presents the NC State women’s
basketball team with its biggest challenge yet — trying to defeat an undefeated team. The No. 3 Wolfpack (31-6) face the No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday in the first women’s Final Four game of the night. Tip off at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland is During their NCAA Tournament run, South Carolina has knocked out No. 16 Presbyterian, No. 8 North Carolina, No. 4 Indiana and No. 3 Oregon State. The Gamecocks have had a balanced attack so far, with Chloe Kitts, Milaysia Fulwiley, Kamilla Cardoso and Tessa Johnson all taking turns leading the team in scoring in each of the four games. The Wolfpack defeated No. 14 Chattanooga and No. 6 Tennessee in the early rounds before upsetting No. 2 Stanford and No. 1
Texas in their regional to earn their spot in Cleveland. Aziaha James has led NC State during their postseason run, scoring an average of 24.3 points per contest over the four games. NC State holds a 20-12 lead in the all-time series between the two teams, as well as a 4-2 edge in neutral site matchups. The last time the Wolfpack beat the Gamecocks was on Dec. 3, 2020, but South Carolina won the most recent matchup in the 2021-22 season opener. The winner of this game will move on to the national championship game on Sunday, where they will face either Paige Bueckers and No. 3 UConn or Caitlin Clark and No 1. Iowa. The Huskies and Hawkeyes play later Friday night.
