Singer stage (Picture: FOX) It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last time either, but one of the biggest names in noughties pop was unmasked on The Masked Singer. The popular celebrity talent competition sees big-name acts donning head-to-toe costumes while singing huge pop hits while judges and the audience attempt to guess who’s underneath. Names such as Donny Osmond, Aloe Blacc, and Ne-Yo have all been unmasked on the US version of the show down the years, and on Wednesday it was the turn of Thong Song legend Sisqó. Sisqó, who had been wearing the lizard costume for the first three weeks, was eliminated after four weeks in the competition, with judges Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy still stumped over his identity. However, fellow judges Rita Ora, and Robin Thicke were certain by the point of his unmasking that the R&B act was the man behind the lizard mask who had sang Evanescence’s Bring Me to Life on the night. But it was his follow-up hit Thong Song that sent him over the edge and made him an international star, with the song eventually going platinum in the
UK after reaching the top three on both sides of the Atlantic. His album Unleash the Dragon went five times platinum in the
USA in the early weeks of the new millennium as Sisqó, whose real name is Mark Andrews, became known for his close-cut bleach blonde hair. Lizard delivered a good rendition of Evanescence before his elimination (Picture: FOX) He was asked by Masked Singer host Nick Cannon, ‘You have rocked stages all over the world, why in the world did you do The Masked Singer?’ Read More Stories Sisqó replied: ‘My family loves the show and every time we saw a season, everybody would always say, ”Hey, this got to be Sisqó”. ‘So, when I got an opportunity to do it, I seized it and it’s really been fun.’ Rita Ora ran over to Robin Thicke and hugged him after it was revealed the pair had guessed correctly, and the pair got to watch Sisqó perform his legendary hit live on stage following his elimination. Actor Kevin Hart was eliminated after just one performance, with his off-key singing underneath the Book costume sending viewers into hysterics back at home. ‘One of the most charming performances I’ve ever seen. Nobody is more fun than the Book,’ Robin Thicke commented as he laughed. ‘My face is hurting.’ However, Kevin insisted the entire performance had been a prank and that he’d only performed so poorly on purpose.
