Carla Gugino has reflected on being just 27 years old when she played mum-of-two Ingrid Cortez in Spy Kids . The
Hollywood Actress, now 52, mused in a recent interview that it was ‘physically totally impossible’ for Ingrid to have a nine and 11-year-old, while also having proved herself in a decade-long career as a spy. Spy Kids is a 2001 blockbuster which rocketed Carla to Hollywood stardom, with her reprising the role for the second and third installments of the franchise – Spy Kids 2: Islands of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3: Game over. The first film sees secret agents Ingrid and Gregorio (Antonio Banderas) fall in love and decide to start a family, only for their domestic bliss to be scuppered by their mysterious disappearance. This comes after The Girls on the Bus star revealed on The Drew Barrymore show she lied about her age to land a role in Troop Beverly Hills. ‘I was 16 but I looked really young so I pretended I was 14. It was before everyone could tell your age on IMDb,’ she explained. ‘I got the job, we were enough into the shoot that I felt I couldn’t get fired, I told the director [Jeff Kanew] and he said, “If I knew you were 16 I wouldn’t have given you the job.” ‘I was like, this is reinforcing me lying, I wanted telling the truth to be a good thing.
