A woman was found with abuse images of children including babies when
police raided her home in Cardiff . She was also found to have distributed an image of a child. Sophie Willis, 20, was visited by police at her home in Roath on January 23 when a search warrant was executed. When asked about an email address linked to a
Google account, she responded: "It sounds familiar... There may be stuff on my phone." A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday heard the defendant initially told police she had been blackmailed into saving images by men online or they would "expose her IP address". She was also found to have distributed one category B image. The most extreme images included babies being abused, with children up to 10-years-old also depicted. The defendant was involved in conversations with men on internet platform Discord which were sexual in nature. She sent images and videos of herself engaging in sexualised behaviour, some of which took place near a children's play park. When asked about the images, she said they had been shared with her by other men and they had threatened her to save them to her phone. Willis, of Mackintosh Place, later pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images, distribution of indecent images, and possession of extreme images. The court heard she had no previous convictions. In mitigation, Amelia Pike said her client did not derive any sexual gratification from the images, and felt remorse for her possession of them. The barrister said the defendant had been diagnosed with autism and complex PTSD as a result of childhood trauma. She described Willis as a "vulnerable young lady" who lacks immaturity and is easily persuaded. Recorder Robin Rouch sentenced Willis to a 12-month community order, a 15 day rehabilitation activity requirement and was made subject to sex offender notification requirements for five years.
