Social Media network VK to reveal how her children were banned from an after-school family sports event simply for not having a father. Mother-of-four Ekaterina Zotina was stunned when her kids said they had been barred from the weekend sports event called 'Dad Mum Me' at their school in Perm, western Russia. Angry Ekaterina took to Russia's social media network VK to reveal how her children had been shamed by their school. Ekaterina explained: "A family is a family, no matter what. Complete or incomplete." She added: "Ilya and I are ready to participate. But, there must be a complete family, mum and dad. An older brother won't do, nor will any other adult relative, you can't even rent a dad. "I think there are families where there is no mum, but there is a dad with children. So they won't be able to participate either. And it's already hard for us to raise children alone, and here it turns out that we have no rights at all?" Now the school, not named in local media, is under investigation after Ekaterina's post was taken up by Igor Sapko,
Human Rights Commissioner for Perm. He said: "Undoubtedly, such actions towards children and families are absolutely unacceptable. If such requirements are included in the regulations on the conduct of the competition, then the document needs to be corrected, and any discriminatory provisions there should be eliminated." Sapko said he has urged Russia's Ministry of Education to investigate, which later said the school had breached rules about family events. The school has not yet commented on the incident, reports local media. Ekaterina said: "I believe that what happened is discrimination based on social status, and unequal conditions for complete and incomplete families need to be changed."
