Jude Bellingham has told Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag what he wants to hear
Jude Bellingham produced another polished performance for England on Sunday, helping them beat Ukraine 2-0 at Wembley to maintain their winning start to their European Championship qualifying campaign. The Borussia Dortmund ace started in a three-man midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Declan Rice and produced a trademark energetic and exciting display that we have all come to expect from him. The 19-year-old is continuing to progress at a rapid rate and it is little wonder that clubs are queuing up left, right and centre to try and win the race for his signature. Although Manchester United acknowledge that they are not at the very front of the queue for Bellingham, they have not, as reported by the Manchester Evening News in December, ruled out the prospect of a fresh move for him this forthcoming summer. United attempted to sign the midfielder back in 2020 and he visited the club's Carrington training base just a few months before he signed for Dortmund. He has also donned the captain's armband on several occasions and has represented England at both a World Cup and a European Championship. He is the jewel in Dortmund's crown, meaning it is no surprise that clubs from right across Europe dream of signing him this summer. Despite being only 19, the former Birmingham City man, who has scored 10 goals for Dortmund this term, is consistently producing performances that a seasoned pro would be proud of. His all-action, energetic style of play makes him a joy to watch. United manager Erik ten Hag , who wants to recruit a new midfielder this forthcoming summer, is understood to be a massive fan, so much so that he is understood to have told confidants that if he could sign any player in the world it would be Bellingham. United, who also want to sign a striker this forthcoming summer, need to bring the average age of their midfield options down ahead of next season and Ten Hag wants to do that by recruiting a more dynamic operator. Bellingham ticks both of those boxes perfectly, but United know they will face a very difficult challenge to lure him to Old Trafford, such is the level of interest from elsewhere. Nevertheless, Bellingham, who has remained relatively quiet on his future in recent months, has detailed exactly why he would be perfect for United, although it has been fairly obvious for a while through his performances on the pitch. Speaking to Channel 4 after England's triumph over Ukraine, Bellingham said: "I think there's so much I've got to learn. The way I want to be as a midfielder is someone who can win the game at both ends of the pitch. Jude Bellingham is an outstanding operator. (Image: Joachim Bywaletz/DeFodi Images via Getty Images.) "In the middle, to dominate the ball as a six, as an eight, making the runs into the box, and as a No.10. Creating chances as well. "I've always wanted to be someone who can do a bit of everything. I think I've still got so much to learn, but you have the best chance with the guys in that [England] changing room and the ones at Dortmund. "I'm like a sponge at the minute, to be honest. I just want to take everything in at any chance I get to learn about the game." Taking Bellingham's comments about wanting to dominate midfield in every department into account, it is further proof that he is just the type of midfielder that Ten Hag is looking for. The youngster is a generational talent and you cannot help but be unable to take your eyes off him when he's playing. Ten Hag, too, often highlights the importance of his team being packed with players with the right mentality. Bellingham's hunger to succeed, win games and learn from others are further strings that he can add to his already well-stocked bow. United know they face a difficult challenge to win the race for his signature. Nevertheless, if they do, perhaps supported by fresh investment via a takeover, come out on top, they know they will be bringing in a player perfect for both the club's and Ten Hag's needs.
