election if the former president is indicted. The comment comes as Trump claims he will be arrested on Tuesday, a claim that hasn’t been verified by any of the offices currently investigating Trump for a long list of crimes he committed over the past seven years. “If this happens, Trump will be re-elected in a landslide victory,” Musk wrote on Twitter on Saturday morning. Musk was replying to a tweet that claimed Trump could be handcuffed if he really is arrested this coming week. News first broke on Friday that Trump could be indicted as soon as early this week by Manhattan prosecutors over a hush money payment the former president allegedly made to adult film star
Stormy Daniels as a candidate in the 2016 presidential election. Trump, a continued threat to the safety and security of the U.S., has denied any affair with Daniels, though his former “fixer”
Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to making the payment of $130,000 to Daniels in violation of campaign finance rules. The check even had Trump’s signature, and that wasn’t the only payment in weeks leading up to the 2016 election to has drawn the attention of investigators.

Karen McDougal also received a payment of $150,000 from the National Enquirer to keep an alleged affair with Trump from becoming public, according to the Associated Press . The payment was known as a “catch and kill” effort, allegedly to benefit Trump, where a publisher pays for the exclusive on a story but doesn’t ultimately publish the story to keep the underlying story quiet. Musk and Trump have butted heads over a number of issues over the years, and while Musk has recently supported conservative candidates in the 2022 midterm
elections, the billionaire CEO of Tesla is not exactly a Trump fan—which is why it’s a little odd for Musk to so emphatically claim Trump could win again. Trump’s support has hovered around 30% of Americans since his attempt to stop the certification of the 2020 election at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
