'Two French fries short of a Happy Meal': MTG ridiculed on The View for latest theory
Apr 08, 2024
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) proclaimed last week that an earthquake in the northeastern United States Friday, followed by today's solar eclipse, was a "sign from God." It sent "The View" co-hosts into peals of laughter and mockery. The panelists were quick with jokes recalling Donald Trump embracing the 2017 eclipse by staring directly at the sun without protective glasses while his staff yelled for him not to look directly because it could permanently damage eyes. "Maybe that's what's wrong with him," quipped Sunny Hostin. ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why keeping Trump from the White House is all that matters "Maybe that explains things," agreed Alyssa Farah Griffin, who served as Trump's communications director. "With the earthquake on Friday and the eclipse today, people are having all sorts of conspiracies about the end of the world. And then I read online that the epicenter was actually at Bedminster, New Jersey. Fun fact. So it originated with Trump." Another thing Hostin said is that there's a new cycle of cicadas coming this summer. Each generation of cicadas surfaces either every 13 years or every 17 years. There are those who believe that the Rapture is coming due to the confluence of events. Trump even used the eclipse to promote himself, showing his profile plunging the Earth into darkness in an ad. Whoopi Goldberg explained that all of these events happen all the time and it isn't an indication of anything ending the world. While the solar eclipse is making its way across the U.S. in 2024, it happens annually in various parts of the world. For example, there was a total solar eclipse in Antarctica on Dec. 4, 2021. That same day, the Semeru volcano erupted. All the while, the COVID-19 pandemic continued to plague the world. The Oxford High School shooter's parents were also arrested that day. Still, the confluence of events prompted Greene to tell the world that they must repent because all of the events happening at the same time meant God was displeased with the world. "I hope she listens," shaded Hostin after reading MTG's tweet. "She needs to listen, anyway.""She better listen," agreed Joy Behar. "That woman is two french fries short of a Happy Meal."The frequently used euphemism for stupidity or mental unfitness is similar to saying "a can short of a six-pack," "a quart low," "the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top," "the meatballs are sliding off the spaghetti," and "a few fruitloops short a bowl."See the comments from the co-hosts in the video below or at the link here.

Trump's trial delay argument failed because he delayed making it: legal expert
Apr 04, 2024
Former President Donald Trump's last-ditch effort to delay his hush money trial failed for an ironic reason pointed out by a legal expert on Wednesday: Trump delayed. CNN analyst Norm Eisen appeared on "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" to discuss Judge Juan Merchan's ruling against Trump's plea to push the trial date back until after the Supreme Court ruled on a presidential immunity claim made in his election interference case."Trump and his lawyers are running out of delay options," Eisen said, noting the latest ruling comes on the heels of eight failed attempts to delay the upcoming April 15 court date.Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records to disguise hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election, as is contended by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Also read: Truth Social stock is 'the perfect avenue for potential corruption': analysis While much of the coverage of Merchan's ruling has focused on Trump's attempt to use one criminal court case to delay another, Eisen pointed to a small irony that had gone unnoticed. "The judge found that Trump brought that up too late," Eisen said. "So Trump's own delay victimized his delay attempt." Eisen said he believes Trump has run out of delay options, saying, "This case is very likely going to trial with jury selection." The legal analyst also weighed in on the former president's Truth Social post Wednesday night in which he shared a controversial ally's attacks on Merchan's wife, despite a gag order restricting him from targeting the judges family."It probably is a technical violation," Eisen said. "Not everything in court happens publicly so there may have also been private letter briefings about this, conferences with the judge or other concerns. "But if Trump keeps on this course ... I do think you're gonna see a court response as we've seen in other cases with gag orders."Watch the video below or at this link. Norm Eisen on CNN 4/4/24 youtu.be

Mike Johnson hits back at Marjorie Taylor Greene — while pleading with her for civility
Apr 04, 2024
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is finally speaking out about the ongoing threats to his job from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) — and he is at once chastising her and pleading with her to work with him.Greene, a far-right lawmaker known for antagonizing fellow Republicans, and who was close to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy before he was booted from the gavel, has leveled constant warnings at Johnson to stop passing routine funding packages, and to not hold a vote on defense aid to Ukraine. She has threatened to call a motion to vacate Johnson's speakership, and even suggested he is being blackmailed to do President Joe Biden's bidding.Johnson, after days of this standoff, is finally hitting back at Greene's attacks in a lengthy statement reported by CNN congressional correspondent Manu Raju.ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why keeping Trump from the White House is all that matters"I respect Marjorie. She will always have an open door to the Speaker’s office. We do have honest differences on strategy sometimes but share the same conservative beliefs," said Johnson. “In spite of our Republican majority of just a single seat in just one chamber of Congress, we are still fighting this administration every day to make policy changes. A shutdown would not serve our party or assist us in our mission of saving the republic by growing our majority, nor will another motion to vacate."“As I have always said, national security starts at our southern border," said Johnson — despite the fact that he helped tank a bipartisan Senate negotiation to improve border security after former President Donald Trump voiced his opposition to it. "Any funding of the President’s supplemental request should be premised on meaningful policy to help the American people and finally address the invasion at our southern border.”Per Raju, Johnson and Greene are expected to meet for a discussion on Friday.

'Reprehensible': Hush money prosecutor demands stricter gag order against Trump
Apr 01, 2024
The prosecutor in former President Donald Trump's criminal hush money case Monday demanded a stricter gag order to clamp down on his "dangerous, violent, and reprehensible rhetoric," court records show. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg filed his motion to New York City Justice Juan Merchan, whose daughter has been the subject of repeated attacks from Trump on his social media site Truth Social, according to court records."[Trump's] dangerous, violent, and reprehensible rhetoric fundamentally threatens the integrity of these proceedings and is intended to intimidate witnesses and trial participants alike—including this Court," Bragg wrote. ALSO READ: No, Donald Trump, fraud is not protected by the First Amendment"This Court can and should clarify or extend the Order to protect family members of the Court on the record described below, and should warn defendant that any future disregard of the Order will result in sanctions."Bragg's demand comes after Trump's attorneys argued Merchan's daughter was fair game for character attacks because she had engaged in political speech, noted reporter Adam Klasfield, among the first to spot the new filing."But Bragg calls this a 'fig leaf' and a 'fiction,' rejected by a state judicial ethics committee last year," Klasfield wrote. Trump, who has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records, is slated to see his trial begin in mid-April, court records show. Bragg contends Trump illegally funneled cash to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. This is one of three criminal court cases Trump faces linked to charges of election interference, the other two pertaining to his actions between the 2020 presidential election and Jan. 6, 2021. On Monday, Bragg rebutted the former president's claim that his social media attacks were his constitutional right.""Defendant’s claim of a constitutional right to levy personal attacks on family members is as disturbing as it is wrong," Bragg wrote.

Mark Meadows tells Georgia judge to dismiss his election racketeering case
Apr 01, 2024
Mark Meadows is demanding that his Georgia election racketeering case be dismissed due to the Supremacy Clause in the U.S. Constitution, according to court records revealed by investigative reporter Zach Merchant.Meadows' attorneys requested Monday an evidentiary hearing to discuss his argument in the Fulton County court where he and former President Donald Trump face multiple criminal charges linked to the 2020 presidential election, according to the Atlanta NBC affiliate reporter's post.Trump's former White House chief of staff previously asked that his case be moved to federal court but was turned down. His new argument claims the Constitution mandates state law not interfere with federal law.ALSO READ: No, Donald Trump, fraud is not protected by the First AmendmentThe filing begins by saying that the timeline for the Supreme Court to take up his case hasn't yet expired, so it's still possible that the High Court could overrule the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals refusal to move Meadows' case to federal court.Merchant also noted that Meadows' filing goes on to claim that the same Supremacy Clause "makes him immune to the Fulton election interference charges."Meadows pleaded not guilty to two felony charges linked to his involvement in an alleged attempt to toss the 2020 election results in Georgia, court records show. His strategy continues to be pressing for his case to be removed to federal court due to his position, rebutting Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' contention that he broke state laws. This argument does not pass muster with legal analyst Andrew Weissmann, who compared Meadows to a hypothetical federal employee accused of robbing a bank. Weissmann argued that employee would not be charged in federal court because they had effectively broken state law. Hope Hicks to testify in Trump hush money trial: report
Apr 01, 2024
Hope Hicks, Donald Trump's 2016 campaign press secretary, will reportedly testify at the former president's hush money trial in New York. Sources told NBC News that Hicks could testify about her knowledge surrounding payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels to cover up Trump's alleged affair. Hicks has previously testified before a grand jury in March 2023. "Now Hope Hicks, she per federal court records dating back to Michael Cohen when he pleaded guilty, he contended at the time that there was a phone call in which she latched not only Michael Cohen but with Donald Trump together," MSNBC's Vaughn Hilliard explained. "And so there's questions about on October 8, 2016, the day that Stormy Daniels came forward to the National Enquirer and said that she was ready to share her story but could potentially all but be paid off, that there were conversations that Hope Hicks was allegedly a part of." Hicks may have also been on a second call the same day that Cohen agreed to pay $130,000 to silence Daniels. ALSO READ: Inside the neo-Nazi hate network grooming children for a race war Legal analyst Lisa Rubin noted that Hicks had broken with Trump to some degree after he left office. "If you look at the transcript of Hope Hicks' transcribed interview with the January 6th committee, you see a person who at the end of her White House service did break somewhat with Donald Trump," Rubin recalled. "She didn't leave as acrimoniously as other people did." "She didn't share his belief that the election had been stolen, and that at the time was headline-making news, that Hope Hicks had essentially said to him, Mr. President, you and I don't see this the same way," she added. "So it remains to be seen what Hope Hicks will be like in a courtroom if she testifies, what her demeanor is like with Donald Trump, the defendant, sitting right in front of her." Mary Trump 'energized' as uncle 'Donald's campaign spirals into chaos'
Mar 29, 2024
Donald Trump's campaign is in chaos, and his niece says she's energized.Mary Trump, the niece of the former president and a psychologist by trade, has previously been critical of her uncle. On Thursday, she said her uncle's failures are adding up.ALSO READ: A neuroscientist reveals how Trump and Biden's cognitive impairments are different"As the RNC’s fundraising falters and Donald’s campaign spirals into chaos, I am energized!" she said in a Substack post. She then continued:"When Donald dominates the news cycle, it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed. Every bad headline has a negative impact. But then I remember something crucial: There’s usually more to the story than meets the eye. I’m determined to cut through the media noise and share with you all the good that happened this week. These are the headlines we need to remain energized and hopeful that the media largely ignored."Mary Trump goes on to highlight President Joe Biden's recent fundraising hauls."President Biden’s $155 million+ war chest has just received another turbo boost, bringing the total of cash on hand to at least $180 million. (By comparison, between his campaign and the RNC, Donald barely has over $50 million — and continues to drain the accounts to cover his absolutely staggering legal expenses)," she wrote. "This is a development that could significantly increase Biden’s ability to influence the narrative in crucial swing states."This, she says, also tells us a lot about voter excitement for Biden."While critics have expressed doubts about the degree to which the Democratic base is fired up as compared to 2020, today’s $25 million fundraiser, raised with donations ranging from $250 to $500,000, should put any doubts to rest — yes, we are absolutely behind President Biden and Vice President Harris and we’re in this fight until the end," she wrote.Read the full post here.

'Is there no depth?' Ex-prosecutor shreds Trump's personal attack on judge's daughter
Mar 29, 2024
Former federal prosecutor Andrew Weissmann took his time on MSNBC Wednesday to lay into former President Donald Trump for his mounting personal attacks on the family of Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Trump's New York hush money trial — including unsubstantiated allegations about his daughter."Andrew, I cease to be able to be surprised, except that Donald Trump is now literally making up a story about Judge Merchan's daughter, posting about it, railing about it, naming her by name," said anchor Joy Reid. "And there's still nothing anyone can do to stop it?""It actually is something that could be stopped," said Weissmann. "There could be the gag order could apply to both the judge and the judge's family. And this is one where as a matter of grace, the judges have not imposed the gag order as to themselves. It reminds me when Amy Berman Jackson — Roger Stone had posted a picture with crosshairs next to her, and she said, you couldn't find another photo that didn't have that there? And judges, I think, bend over backwards, but it will be interesting to see whether Judge Merchan does expand it."ALSO READ: A neuroscientist reveals how Trump and Biden's cognitive impairments are different"But I would just like to step back to, it is true that you see this and you think, it's just Donald Trump. It's just Donald Trump. More of the same," Weissmann continued. "It is really important not to just normalize this. I mean, so many people talk about sort of predicting what would a Trump 2.0 administration be, and should we really think he's going to be a dictator and what will happen. And my response to that is, you can look right now at what he's doing and saying, and for people who are fair-minded, I would say, what do you say about somebody who attacks the daughter of a judge?""That's right," said Reid."I mean, is there no depth to which he will not descend?" Weissmann added. "It's so important to not get inured to what this is.""Yeah, and I mean the bottom line is the reason he's attacking Judge Merchan and his family is the same reason he attacks [special counsel] Jack Smith," said Reid. "They won't stop prosecuting him and he can't delay the trials anymore. He's found a way to even the delay the Georgia trial. They literally went after Fani Willis' relationship, that had nothing to do with the case. That did delay it. This is the one case he can't stop. He knows it's coming and therefore he's trying to personally destroy this man's family."Watch the video below or at the link. 'Trump is in a difficult position': Ex-defense secretary explains how Biden can 'dominate'
Mar 27, 2024
In order for Joe Biden the candidate to stay put as president, he must own April and all of autumn. For the next couple months, while Donald Trump will likely be defending himself in a Manhattan criminal court against charges he manufactured a hush-money scheme to silence porn star Stormy Daniels to help him win the White House — former Defense secretary and CIA director Leon Panetta thinks it opens up a chance for President Joe Biden to up his ground game and go on the offensive. "I think it's a critical moment here," he said during an interview on CNN. "I think Trump is in a difficult position. He's gonna be going into a trial; he's not able to go out and do a lot of campaign events." ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why half of America does not care about Trump's crimes Trump's sidelining could end up being Biden's gain. "This is a moment where a Joe Biden can basically dominate in the campaign arena," Panetta said. "So it is important that he get out to the country. It's important that they well-planned these campaign events to make sure that they are successful and that he continues to fundraise; all of those things are critical to his ability to be able to lay the groundwork for a strong campaign in the fall." The 45th president was indicted last year on 34 felony counts for covering up an alleged affair with Daniels by paying out a six-figure sum through his former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen (who was convicted in the scheme and served prison time) as political cover 12 days before the 2016 presidential election, which he won. The timing of the alleged incidents was critical since Trump was already reeling from the release of the infamous "Access Hollywood" hot mic video that had the real estate tycoon suggesting grabbing women's privates was acceptable if you're a big shot celebrity like him. The trial, set to begin jury selection on April 15, marks the first time a former president is being tried on criminal charges. Trump has denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. Panetta made clear Biden has to mount an effective messaging strategy that stands on some of the foundations that landed him the presidency as Nov. 5 nears. "That messaging has to be about health care, about the Affordable Care Act that messaging has to be about the economy and what needs to be done to make sure we continue to improve the economy that messaging has to obviously deal with reproductive rights which is a critical issue."Watch below or click the link here.

'Policing the rhetoric': Former DA says hush money judge is Trump's perfect foil
Mar 26, 2024
Donald Trump may be a stable genius, but Judge Juan Manuel Merchan is proving to be the stable hand who might be the former president's perfect foil. That'a according to to Miriam “Mimi” Rocah, a seasoned prosecutor with hours logged in both New York and Westchester counties, who appeared Monday on CNN's "Out Front" to laud the New York City jurist overseeing Trump's criminal hush money case. As proof, Rocah pointed to Merchan's handling of Trump's lawyers accusations, levied against prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney's office, of misconduct. "That's so serious, for any lawyer, but especially prosecutors," Rocah said. "That, according to the judge, was not warranted."Merchan played the cornerman for the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over accusations linked documents handed over by the Manhattan federal prosecutor's office, Rocah argued. While Trump's attorneys demanded delay or even dismissal over the alleged "widespread misconduct" of failing to quickly pass the documents, along, Bragg's office said they did their due diligence. ALSO READ: Here's why conservative elites are bailing on Trump nowTrump's attorneys may have pointed fingers at the prosecutors in Trump's hush money case — in which the former president has pleaded not guilty to falsifying business records to hide alleged payments made to Stormy Daniels — but Merchan gave them a hat tip, Rocah noted. Specifically, Merchan refused to delay the case and set a court date of April 15. "This judge, who really calls balls and strikes, said 'In fact, I think the D.A.'s office here seems to have gone above and beyond,'" Rocah said. "They've not only fulfilled their obligations under the law, but they went beyond that."Rocah took Merchan's admonishment of Trump's attorneys as a sign that he'll push back when the case comes to trial. "That is part of a judge's job," Rocah said "to police, if you will, the rhetoric and accusations that get thrown around in heated cases."Watch the video below or click here.

Georgia judge sets hearing to consider dismissing Trump case on free speech grounds
Mar 25, 2024
A Georgia judge has set a Thursday hearing to consider dismissing a conspiracy case against Donald Trump on First Amendment grounds. On Monday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ordered the hearing for March 28. McAfee is expected to consider motions from Donald Trump and other defendants in an election interference case. Trump's motion asked the court to dismiss the case based on his First Amendment right to free speech. McAfee has dismissed two similar motions by co-defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell. Both co-defendants later pleaded guilty. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Trump would have to admit that his claims about the 2020 election being rigged were false to pursue a First Amendment defense. ALSO READ: A criminologist explains why half of America does not care about Trump's crimes "Here, the indictment's recitation of supposedly 'false' statements and facts, undisputed solely for purposes of a First Amendment-based general demurrer/motion to dismiss, show that the prosecution of President Trump is premised on content-based core political speech and expressive conduct protected by the First Amendment," Trump attorney Steven Sadow argued in a court filing. Sadow asserted that the remedy for false speech "is speech that is true … not a state (racketeering) prosecution against the former president of the United States." The Fulton County case focuses on efforts to overturn the election results in which Trump was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden. Specifically, officials in Georgia, including Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, have scrutinized a series of actions and communications by Trump and his allies aimed at influencing the state's election outcome. A pivotal moment in the investigation was a January 2021 phone call made by Trump to Georgia's Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger. During this call, Trump suggested that Raffensperger "find" enough votes to reverse Biden's narrow victory in the state.
