EastEnders bosses have come up with an inventive way to get round the challenges of social distancing while filming kissing scenes.
While you may have thought any saucy shenanigans between the Albert Square residents would have to be implied with longing looks and lusty dialogue, they’ll now be able to display their affection thanks to the help of a perspex sheet.
Speaking at the virtual Edinburgh TV Festival on Monday, BBC drama boss Piers Wenger explained the “ingenious” technique that allows the characters to get up close and personal, while the actors keep a safe distance. He revealed how some cast members have been kissing each other through a plastic pane, which is then edited out of shots in post production.
This technique could prove to be especially handy if rumours about a new affair storyline are to be believed.
The Sun reported back in May that two Walford residents will be embarking on an illicit tryst when the soap returns to screens in September.
EastEnders fell off the air for the first time in its 35-year history in June when it ran out of episodes that were recorded before the coronavirus pandemic shut down production in March.
Filming resumed in July when new safety measures were introduced, while it has also been confirmed
