The red carpet has been rolled out, the statues have been polished and the votes have been counted (and, hopefully, verified). All that’s left before this year’s
Oscars can really get underway is one or two A-list guests.
Every year, the Academy Awards are the high point of the showbiz calendar, with some of the biggest names from the last 12 months of film waiting to find out whether they’ve won an Oscar for their performances.
And even if they don’t, they still might have a
fashion win on the red carpet, right?
So far this awards season, it’s been a fairly predictable state of affairs, with Joaquin Phoenix, Renée Zellweger, Laura Dern and
Brad Pitt landing most of the top acting prizes.
All of them are expected to be making their way onto the Oscars red carpet later on Sunday night, alongside fellow nominees including Scarlett Johansson,
Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks and Margot Robbie.Representing the Brits among this year’s nominees include Florence Pugh of Little
Women fame, film director Sam Mendes and Harriet star Cynthia Erivo, who is – disappointingly – the only actor of colour to have bagged a nomination at this year’s Oscars.
Alongside the nominated talent, presenters on the night will include last year’s Best
Actress recipient Olivia Colman, Timothée Chalamet, Rebel Wilson and Pose actor Billy Porter, so you can expect one or two big red carpet moments from them.
