Women called out disgraced producer
Harvey Weinstein when he turned up at an event for actors this week, only to be booed and asked to leave the venue.Weinstein, the
Hollywood mogul who has been accused of sexual harassment or assault by dozens of women and has pleaded not guilty to sexual assault charges, on Wednesday night showed up at a
New York event for artists called Actor's Hour, BuzzFeed News reports. Comedian Kelly Bachman in her stand-up set referenced the "elephant in the room" that was Weinstein's presence, comparing him to Freddy Krueger and saying, "I didn't know we had to bring our own mace and rape whistles to Actor's Hour." After being booed by the audience and told to "shut up," Bachman quickly shot back, "This kills at group therapy for rape survivors." Weinstein was also confronted near his table by actor Zoe Stuckless, who called him out as a "f---ing rapist" and asked, "Nobody's going to say anything?" Stuckless was asked to leave the venue, BuzzFeed News reports. Comedian Amber Rollo also reportedly confronted Weinstein, calling him a "f---ing monster." The
Washington Post reports that in addition to her stand-up performance, Bachman confronted Weinstein at his table as well and was kicked out of the event.Weinstein, who is awaiting a January trial, has denied the sexual assault allegations against him, with a spokesperson saying that "due process is still the foundation of each and every one of our civil rights in this country." Actor's Hour's organizers have apologized for "the way the situation was handled." Speaking to BuzzFeed, Bachman voiced some regrets over her set — regrets that she didn't blast Weinstein even further. "Mom always tells me to reject Satan," she said, "but I wish I had said more."
