'Need to Know' hails from Simon Helberg's pod deal at Warner Bros. TV, which produces 'Big Bang.'Big Bang Theory star Simon Helberg is teaming with CBS on a new project.
The actor has sold a multicam CIA comedy to the network from Warner Bros. TV, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Titled Need to Know, the project is described as a workplace ensemble set in the top secret training video department at the CIA. Scott Weinger (Black-ish, The Neighbors) will pen the script with Zach Ayers (Fairly Legal). Weinger will exec produce with Helberg and his wife, actress-writer-director Jocelyn Towne. Ayers is set to co-exec produce.
Helberg's Wildline Entertainment banner will produce in association with WBTV. Helberg set up the shingle in 2014 when he signed an two-year pod deal with the studio, which produces long-running hit Big Bang Theory.
Helberg has starred on the Chuck Lorre sitcom since its inception and the comedy is currently renewed through 2019.
Helberg, whose other credits include Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Florence Foster Jenkins, is repped by UTA, MGMT Entertainment and Stone Genow.
Weinger, also known for his onscreen role on the WB-produced Fuller House, is repped by UTA and attorney Bruce Gellman. Ayers is repped by Gersh and attorney Arine Harapeti.
