Jennifer Lopez and
Alex Rodriguez got engaged earlier this month. Since making their announcement on Instagram, the couple of two years has received an outpouring of love from fans, friends, and family alike. But today, they got a sweet surprise from
Barack Obama and
Michelle Obama. Keep reading to learn more.
Rodriguez took to Instagram today to share a photo of a handwritten note from former president Barack Obama. On what looks to be very classy, off-white personalized stationery, Obama congratulated Lopez and Rodriguez on their engagement by writing a sweet sentiment in his signature handwriting.
Here’s what the note says:
“Jennifer and Alex —
Michelle and I just wanted to congratulate you on your engagement. After 26 years together, we can say that whatever challenges life may bring, sharing them with someone you love makes it all better.
All the best,
Barack Obama”
Rodriguez captioned the image, “This means the world to us” and used the hashtag “44” as Obama was the 44th president of the United States.
Obama makes fashion statementRecently, Obama made headlines for donning a bomber jacket by the clothing brand Rag & Bone with “44” embroidered on the sleeve, while attending a big college basketball game between Duke and the University of North Carolina earlier this month, according to GQ.
Let’s just say people forgot they were even at one of the biggest games of the season after Obama showed up wearing the jacket. Since wearing the jacket, Rag & Bone has made more of the bomber jackets available sans the “44” on the sleeve.
Marcus Wainwright, the founder and chief brand officer at Rag & Bone, missed the internet going crazy over Obama’s outfit because he was with his kids at a school-related event. He woke up the next morning and learned of the jacket. “Fun to wake up to that,” Wainwright told GQ. “He looked pretty f***ing cool.”
“The ‘44’ on the sleeve just felt like a subtle touch,” Wainwright added. “Not many people could have pulled it off that way. He’s got style.”
Lopez and Rodriguez celebrate engagementBefore receiving the sweet note from the Obamas, Lopez and Rodriguez celebrated their engagement with a getaway for two.
The couple took a trip to the Bahamas. They headed to their tropical destination in a private jet decked out with decorations including silver balloons reading “congratulations” and a banner. They had champagne — probably just for Rodriguez because Lopez doesn’t drink — and powdered donuts with diamond decals on top to make them look like engagement rings.
Will the Obamas be invited to the wedding? We don’t know how close the Obamas are with Lopez and Rodriguez but they’re close enough for Barack to send them a handwritten congratulations-on-your-engagement note. Since Obama’s no longer the president, he may have an easier time going places such as celebrity weddings.
There’s no question that Lopez and Rodriguez’s wedding will be a very secure event with a big security team making sure there are no paparazzi. That could mean the Obamas will show up for the wedding. We’ll have to wait and see.
