A NEW signal has been detected from a missing submarine as Russian and US ships scramble to the scene, the Argentine navy has stated.
Missing submarine mystery as NEW signal detected, Russian and US ships scramble to scene
Vladimir Putin’s Panther Plus submarine will investigate the development while the US’ Atlantis vessel continues its search in the region.
The signal was detected on the sea floor - the Russian vessel is set to scout the area in a hope to solve the mystery of the ARA San Juan.
Russia’s Yantar ship will also join crews today as the desperate effort continues - Argentina’s navy has encouraged hopefuls that visibility is good.
The navy said: "Together with the Ministry of Defence, we maintain the commitment to accompany the relatives of the 44 crew members, lodging them and assisting them.”
Last month reports emerged of the missing submarine with 44 crew members on board vanishing in the South Atlantic.
The German-built AR San Juan submarine last reported its location 268 miles off Argentina's southern Atlantic coast before it mysteriously disappeared.
Among the crew was 35-year-old Eliana Krawczyk, the country’s first female submariner.

The submarine had been heading to Mar del Plata from the city of Ushuaia when the Argentine navy lost contact.
Countries from around the world came together in an attempt to find and rescue the Argentine sub after experts stated the crew only had an oxygen supply of ten days.
But they admitted if the vessel had been able to “snorkel” near the surface, the crew could potentially survive much longer.

Families of the sailors have been through a rollercoaster of emotions after the search dealt with a series of false alarms over the fate of the sub.
During the height of the operation, a US Navy jet registered a “heat stain” on its instruments some 185 miles off the Argentinian coast, though the lead turned out to be a dead end.
Sailors aboard a British ship reported seeing orange and white flares in the sky, information which also proved fruitless.
