Biden bashes Israel over airstrike deaths: Letters to the Editor — April 8, 2024
President Biden is outraged at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the unfortunate death of seven World Central Kitchen aid workers (“ Joe: we’d rethink support, ” Apr. 4). Biden blames Israel rather than the real culprits, Hamas, who broke the ceasefire by invading Israel and killing more than 1,200 civilians — including the elderly, Women and children. There are no calls By Biden and Sen. Chuck Schumer for elections in Gaza to determine the wishes of the Gazan people. Instead, they are just pandering to the left so they can stay in power. Biden and Schumer are on the wrong side of history — but more importantly on the wrong side of the values of America and its people. Douglas Balin Brooklyn On its website, World Central Kitchens, which just lost seven workers to an errant bomb in Gaza, describes itself as “first to the frontlines” to deliver humanitarian aid. Well, guess what? It turns out that the front lines are the most dangerous part of a combat zone. Meanwhile, Biden bashes Israel for its carelessness. World Central Kitchen must accept that there will occasionally be casualties in their line of work. That’s why you get the glory, because you take risks others won’t. Stephanie Gutmann Decorah, Iowa I am writing to express my outrage regarding the recent Israeli attack where seven international aid workers from World Central Kitchen were killed. This appalling attack not only resulted in the loss of innocent lives but also underscores the urgent need for accountability. The aid workers, part of a clearly marked convoy bearing the World Central Kitchen logo, were engaged in the noble mission of delivering essential food aid to the people of Gaza. Their dedication and selflessness in the face of adversity exemplify the best of humanity. It is heart-wrenching to see their lives were cut short in such a senseless act of violence. Moreover, the reported Biden administration consideration of a new $18 billion arms package for Israel, including dozens of F-15 aircraft, highlights the hypocrisy of Biden’s administration in prioritizing arms sales over Human Rights. Jagjit Singh Los Altos, Calif. The nerve of Biden to claim he is outraged, enraged and heartbroken over the seven aid workers mistakenly killed in Gaza. There is no doubt that it is a huge tragedy when innocent people are victims of a senseless conflict, but has Biden forgotten his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021? This grifter was looking for a photo-op to end that 20 year conflict. Instead, 13 American soldiers were needlessly killed, our allies abandoned and Afghanistan handed over to the Taliban. Biden is a complete disgrace, and he should never be forgiven for his decision to carelessly withdraw from Afghanistan. Raymond Fontana Westbrook, Conn. IDF chief Herzi Halevi is quoted as saying that the strike that struck the World Central Kitchen convoy in Gaza “was a grave mistake.” Only it wasn’t a mistake, but rather a gravely deliberate action, leading to seven graves so far. There will be more graves now that food deliveries are likely to be disrupted, if not completely stopped. War should never happen as often so many, usually unarmed, civilians are killed. But sadly, it is a common response when dialogue fails. Dennis Fitzgerald Melbourne, Australia If you want an example of unmitigated gall, one should look no further than Biden criticizing the Israelis regarding the mistaken air strike that killed seven aid workers. “Sleepy Joe” and the rest of his corrupt administration are directly responsible for the tragic deaths 13 US service members during the criminal bugout in Afghanistan — and then, in response to the attack, the drone strike that whacked an innocent family of 10, including seven children, in Kabul. Biden should keep his mouth shut and go back to bed. Jake McNicholas Whitestone Want to weigh in on today’s stories?
