Speaking frankly about his struggles with alcoholism, Adam has now said the celebrity chef, 57, was there for him, as well as when he split from the mother of his son, Eirianedd Munro. Adam admitted his that personal woes culminated as ‘three years of hell’. In a new interview, the sportsman said he looked up to Gordon’s ‘relentless pursuit’. In conversation with The Sunday Times , Adam recalled withdrawing from racing due to his breakdown fuelled by depression, anxiety, heavy drinking, and ADHD. Having been in recovery for the past year, Adam has leaned on his future father-in-law, who has helped him out of a ‘deep, dark hole’. ‘He’s an incredible energy to be around and an incredible person to have that guidance from,’ Adam said. ‘Gordon is a high performer. He worked his way up to the upper echelons of his industry and works in a place where there’s no b***s**t. ‘I take a lot from that and from the professionalism he has every single day with a relentless pursuit. ‘So, when I see that, I’m like, “Yeah, why can’t I work like this? Why can’t I do this every single day? Why do I have to be so emotionally engaged with things?”‘ Adam added that watching Gordon work his magic in his own field inspired him to change his own approach to swimming and competing. It comes after he broke his eight-year unbeaten streak in 2022 after returning to the pool from a broken foot injury. ‘I’d felt like a god on so many occasions. Now I felt like a complete failure who’d let everyone down. ‘When it all became too much I started drinking. What does the week have in store?
