Varane was a doubt for the trip to Stamford Bridge after coming off against Brentford on Saturday, and although he was cleared to play he lasted just 45 minutes before being replaced by Evans. Evans then had to make way just 20 minutes after coming on, with Casemiro also being replaced before the stoppage-time drama kicked off.
