The Repair Shop cobbler Dean Westmoreland has sustained a permanent injury from working on the show. The
BBC series has become one of the broadcaster's best loved series ever since it first aired in 2017. The Repair Shop often brings its viewers and cast to tears as they reunite people with their most treasured items. However, cobbler Dean has revealed that his craftsmanship on the show comes at a price. Speaking about his work in repairing shoes, he said: "It's always a challenge because every pair has a different story. "I've had clown shoes, running spikes, war boots. I'm open to everything." Dean explained that several accidents using the machinery has resulted in his thumb altering shape. He explained to OK! : "I have a squared-off thumb!" Dean, who joined The Repair Shop in 2021, enjoyed the BBC series as a viewer before joining the team. The expert admitted he previously believed some of the scenes were staged and the repairing of items actually took place somewhere else. Dean couldn't believe his eyes when he first joined the BBC series to realise the restorations take place in the barn just as it's shown on screen. However, Dean admitted the camera has yet to capture him crying following particularly emotional restorations. He added: "It's really fulfilling, You know the history of the item, the story, you get an insight into people's lives. So there's that extra responsibility. When you give it back and they're happy, there's such a sense of relief." The Repair Shop will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer next Wednesday with six brand new episodes. Host Jay Blades and his team of expert crafters will be back in the barn to restore the public's most treasured possessions. The new series will see the team tackle a
fire station painting, a Roald Dahl gate, a World War II code
BREAKING cookbook and a pair of cowboy boots connected to Elton John. The Repair Shop will also be welcoming a brand new expert to the barn. Skilled textiles conservator Rebecca Bissonnet will be introduced to BBC viewers in episode two after an
Irish dancing dress which requires intricate repair work is brought in to the barn. Rebecca has previously worked on restoring items such as
Queen Elizabeth II's coronation dress. On the show's new addition, Jay added: "It was great to welcome Rebecca to the barn, she just fitted like a glove and it's always so special to be able to learn different skills from different people. We can't wait to share these new episodes." Follow Mirror Cele bs on TikTok , Snapchat ,
