Wrestling’s biggest week of the year just got even bigger for
British fans this morning as
WWE made a surprise announcement that
Scotland will host its first ever pay-per-view event. Clash At The Castle: Scotland will be held at the OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow on Saturday, June 15 2024, with Friday Night Smackdown also being shown live from there the night before. Making the announcement, WWE’s President Nick Khan praised the passion of Scottish fans, saying: “We are excited to bring both Friday Night SmackDown and Clash At The Castle: Scotland to our amazing fans in Scotland at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow this June. “The world will see that this is one of the UK’s best venues and Scottish crowds are some of the loudest, craziest and most passionate on the planet.” READ MORE: 'Frustrated' Becky Lynch says WWE 'can't rely' on part-time celebrities like Logan Paul No information is available yet on when tickets will go on sale or how much they will be, although WWE says details will emerge ‘in the coming days’ meanwhile fans can sign up for the pre-sale here in readiness for the launch. Tickets are usually sold via Ticketmaster and fans can already get tickets for WWE's post-Wrestlemania European tour in April here , with dates in
London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Belfast already booked in. Fans reacted quickly as the news broke this morning, with many taking to
Social Media to discuss the surprise event, which shares a name with the record-setting Clash At the Castle which took place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff in September 2022. At the time it became the most-viewed and highest-rated international PPV in WWE history and was even discussed in the House of Commons. Booking.com was reporting more than three quarters of hotels around the venue were reserved within an hour of the announcement ( Image: Narin Flanders) Meanwhile, within an hour of the announcement, more than three-quarters of hotels on Booking.com within the vicinity of the arena had been booked, while Travelodge was showing limited availability in several of its Glasgow branches. It’s already the biggest week of the year for wrestling fans, with icon-turned-movie-star The Rock fighting his first WWE match in almost a decade among a host of other hotly-anticipated clashes at Wrestlemania XL in Philadelphia this weekend. Among the matches across the two-day extravaganza of particular interest to British fans is on night two, when Scottish wrestler and former WWE champion Drew McIntyre faces Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. McIntyre, who was reportedly delaying signing a new contract with the TKO-owned wrestling giant, is prominent in the initial artwork for Clash at the Castle: Scotland, making it an intriguing possibility that he could be getting a long-awaited champion’s welcome back to his home country. McIntyre’s last title run was during Covid which meant he performed largely without crowds, so this new PPV would be a fairytale - and much-deserved - way to start a new championship run. While McIntyre is arguably the biggest Scottish wrestling talent, there are many others fans will be cheering on, including Piper Niven, Alba Fyre, Isla Dawn, Nikki Cross, Joe Coffey, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang and Noam Dar.
