Police found a steak knife in a man's sock while searching him after reports of a disturbance, a court heard. Bradley Kiss, 29, of Brereton Avenue, Cleethorpes admitted possession of a knife when he appeared at Grimsby Crown Court . He also admitted breach of a suspended
prison sentence of 12 weeks for an offence of battery from May last year. Prosecuting, Harry Bradford said
police received reports of a man involved in a disturbance in Brereton Avenue on February 12. When they attended, Kiss was searched and found with the four-inch blade tucked in his sock. For Kiss, Craig Lowe said there were exceptional circumstances involved in the incident and his client suffered acute mental health problems, which stemmed from a fatal crash on the A180 in which his brother Sonny tragically died eight years ago. Most of his previous offending is linked to alcohol abuse, said Mr Lowe. When the defence barrister suggested his client might seek an alcohol abstinence monitoring programme for 90 days, in place of custody, the defendant said he wanted the full 120 days. "There is understandable concern among members of the public about people who routinely carry knives in public. "It has led Parliament to view this with the utmost seriousness and repeat offences of this kind will result in custodial sentences of at least a minimum of six months." He said he acknowledged the defendant's genuine remorse. He jailed Kiss for a total of 33 weeks.
