A road in the Black Country has been named as the worst for car crime in the whole of
England. More drivers were victims of crime here than anywhere else during 2023, new data has revealed. And if you're from the West Midlands, there's a good chance you have been here. The road is Axletree Way in Wednesbury. The name alone might not mean too much but thousands know it. It's the road which leads to Ikea, and also passes a number of other shops on retail parks. WhatsApp This is an extremely busy road and anyone who has paid a visit at weekends or other peak times will likely have been stuck in queues here at some point. And it has also been a prime target for criminals, aware there are a huge number of vehicles parked up in this area. Axletree Way, just off the M6, tops the national car crime list, with 129 incidents recorded last year - over two every week on average. The next seven roads on the list are all in
London. The
police data serves as a warning to motorists to ensure their car is protected as much as possible when in the area. Mark Trimbee, CEO of Regtransfers , which carried out the study, offered some car safety tips to drivers. He said: " Keeping your car safe from thieves doesn’t need to be a costly or taxing endeavour, but there are certainly some steps you should take to reduce your chances of being stung. Mix a bit of street smarts with some tech savvy; lock up tight, park smart, and don’t let your keys hang out or be seen in places where they shouldn’t be. "When it comes to additional tech, things like dash-cams, signal-blocking pouches for keyless entry fobs, and tracking devices can offer great security measures. Don’t forget to keep an eye out when you’re around your car and lock up as soon as you get in. It’s all about being smart and staying one step ahead."
