Former teacher is set to avoid
prison time despite being of having sex with a 17-year-old student. She taught at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley,
Washington, in the US, but on Thursday (March 28) pleaded guilty to amended charges of second-degree
Sexual Misconduct with a minor and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. The relationship began in June 2022 after the student found Kindred’s
Instagram account and the pair began speaking, according to the , The mother of the child said the ex-educator’s “predatory actions” stripped her son of his dreams. In November of that year, it was reported that while Kindred’s husband was away hunting, the student came to her house and they had sex. Kidred’s crimes were discovered when a friend of the victim saw messages between the pair and reported them to another member of staff. At the time screenshots were shown both Kindred and the student denied any form of sexual relationship had taken place. As rumours circulated, an investigation was carried out which saw detectives speak to the teen, who admitted they had been messaging and sharing inappropriate pictures and videos. They then admitted to contacting her on Instagram and having sex with her at her home. According to previous reports from , Kindred sent sexually charged messages to the teen including: “I wanted you to be in my room,” “When other girls talk about you in my class I could feel myself getting mad” and “I really like being touched by you.” Selfies were found to have been sent between them, although none were sexually explicit. Kindred was placed on administrative leave in 2022. The mother of the victim said Kindred had started to groom the student from the age of 16, claiming her actions were an “abuse of power”. She added: “I barely slept for several weeks in fear of the physical retaliation [my son] might be victim to as McKenna involved him in her adult marital affairs.” Kindred apologised to the teen and their family, telling the court in a pre-prepared statement: “I know this past year has been incredibly difficult for all involved. As a result of my actions, I’ve lost my career, valuable friendships, freedoms and have let down countless people who placed their trust in me. “My mental health has also significantly been affected by this event. I am deeply ashamed of the pain I have caused.” She was sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years and was fined $700 (£554).
