An expert has shared a top tip for having a beautiful garden - and it's all about leaving those weeds alone. We've always been told that weeds are bad for our gardens. They pop up and start fighting with other plants for water, air, and food. Lots of people who like gardening spend loads of time pulling out these cheeky wild plants. It's like they're having a battle with them. But it looks like weeds might not be as naughty as we thought. You could even save time by not pulling them out, and your garden will still look great. Gardening pro Chris Bonnett says that even though weeds have a bit of a bad name, they can actually do some good things for your garden because of their "hidden talents". Chris chatted with The Express and said: "Gardeners who utilise the hidden talents of weeds can significantly improve their outdoor spaces." Letting weeds stay can help lots of different living things thrive, make the ground better, and save water too. But remember, weeds can grow fast and take over, so don't let them get too wild. Try giving them their own spot so they don't pinch all the goodies from the plants you care about. Having some weeds in your garden can actually be good for it. They can bring lots of insects, birds, and other wildlife to your garden. This makes a great place for pollinators, which are "vital" for making healthy plants, says Chris. You can also make your soil better by using old weeds. Just let the weeds sit in water until they rot, then pour this onto your compost. In the hot summer, weeds can be used as mulch on the ground. This helps keep water in the soil, so you don't have to water your garden as much. Chris says this "reduces the need for frequent watering". Weeds can also stop the soil from being blown or washed away because they cover empty spots on the lawn. But not everyone likes weeds, especially if you have lots of pretty flowers and plants. A garden expert has shared the best ways to get rid of unwanted wild plants, like using salt.
