The 49-year-old presenter hosted his BBC Radio 2 slot on Wednesday and was left horrified by his on-air blunder. As the star addressed listeners about the time capsules, he read out a letter from a fan, as he said: "Hey Vern, can you wish a happy 100th anniversary to the Vernon Building Society in Stockport," reports the Mirror. The radio host then discussed everything Stockport has produced, including his wife Tess Daly. “And as I’m reading this they’re burying a time capsule with pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School containing everything that’s great about Greater Manchester which will be opened in 100 years in 2124," he continued. It’ll be some other clown sat at a radio station.” However, things went south when Vernon added: “If you are going down there, to the burying of the time capsule, enjoy that little bit of p***." He had meant to say “a little piece of history” but accidentally slipped up. The former Family Fortunes host was left laughing at the blunder, after he swore live on air. He told listeners: "I apologise, slip of the tongue. (Image: BBC/PA Wire) “I’m having so much fun today - now I do really need a wee after laughing." Radio 2 listeners took to X - formerly Twitter - where they quipped about Vernon's mistake as one said: "Brilliant, slip of the tongue.” In February, fans of the star were left confused when his mid-morning radio show suffered technical issues. He was chatting to his listeners as normal when his voice was suddenly cut off and listeners heard nothing but silence before "emergency tapes" began to play. The dad-of-two was in the middle of saying: "When The Sun Goes Down reached number one in January..." before the malfunction happened. He said: "Right well that's exciting isn't it?" Vernon went on to tell listeners: "Let me explain what's happened. Basically the system needed a reboot. That's what happened. Everything just crashed, literally crashed. We have a machine where we play all the music off and that's gone kaput. That's got warning signs flashing in front of me. I don't know whether it's overheated or having a day but it's gone kaput." The presenter took over from broadcasting legend Ken Bruce on the mid-morning slot in May of last year. The 72-year-old left to join commercial rival Greatest Hits Radio in March after hosting the same BBC slot since 1986. Vernon has said there are no hard feelings between the DJs as they even take the same train every morning. Get the latest celebrity gossip and telly news sent straight to your inbox.
