Irish village, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, also features stars including Ciarán Hinds, Colm Meaney, Kerry Condon, Jack Gleeson, Sarah Greene, Desmond Eastwood, Conor MacNeill, Seamus O’Hara, Valentine Olukoga and Mark O’Regan. In the Co Donegal-filmed thriller, Ballymena man Neeson plays the newly retired assassin who finds himself drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists. It will also be streamed on Netflix in the UK and Ireland from April 26th. The film, shot in 2022 in south west Donegal, received its world premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival last September. “With multiple Oscar nominees in front of and behind the camera, we’re confident that ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ will be another thought-provoking entry in Liam Neeson’s storied filmography and delight both critics and audiences alike,” said Samuel Goldwyn Films president Peter Goldwyn The synopsis reads “Ireland, 1970s. Eager to leave his dark past behind, Finbar Murphy (Neeson) leads a quiet life in the remote coastal town of Glencolmcille, far from the political violence that grips the rest of the country. “When a menacing crew of terrorists arrive, led by a ruthless woman named Doirean (Condon), Finbar soon discovers that one of them has been abusing a local young girl. "Drawn into an increasingly vicious game of cat and mouse, Finbar must choose between exposing his secret identity or defending his
Friends and neighbours." Meaney has described the film as “an Irish Avengers” for its ensemble of Irish actors. Neeson and Hinds, who are also close friends, filmed the movie in south west Donegal for several weeks in 2022. A cast and crew of around 300 people descended on the area to shoot scenes for the action adventure. A number of locals were also hired as extras for the filming, which is set to be a major economic boost for the area. The film was directed by Robert Lorenz and written by Terry Loane and Mark Michael McNally. Lorenz previously directed Neeson in 'The Marksman', which topped the
