Stewart’s classic sci-fi novel. Heels and Vikings star has signed on to lead the six-episode miniseries, which will begin its production on April 8 in Vancouver. The streamer is currently targeting an late 2024 release date for the series. What is Earth Abides about? “When a plague of unprecedented virulence sweeps the globe, the human race is all but wiped out. In the aftermath, as the great machine of civilization slowly and inexorably breaks down, only a few shattered survivors remain to struggle against the slide into extinction,” reads the logline. Ludwig is set to portray the role of Ish, who’s described as “a brilliant but solitary young geologist living a semi-isolated life who awakens from a coma only to find that there is no one left alive but him. His journey is to learn the difference between sanctuary and survival and to open his heart to love if he is to find meaning in his life after the great machine of civilization has broken down.” Earth Abides is created and co-written by showrunner Todd Komarnicki (Sully). It will be executive produced by Michael Phillips, Juliana Maio, and Kearie Pea, with Bronwen Hughes and Stephen Campanelli to direct.
