The Hairy Bikers have sent out an urgent alert to their fans about fake fundraising pages pretending to be Si King and asking for donations to
cancer charities following the sad death of his good friend, Dave Myers. TV chef Dave sadly passed away at the age of 66 last month. The TV star had battled cancer for years and shared his diagnosis two years ago. Si has been heartbroken by the loss of his co-star, and now cruel scammers are using his name to ask for fake donations for Dave's family. A message on the official Hairy Bikers
Facebook page said: "Many of you have been emailing us pointing out that fake profiles are appearing on Facebook and Instagram, the latest one is of Si King. Our Team has been desperately trying to get Meta, the owners of Facebook and
Instagram to remove these fake profiles for the past 2 weeks without success. "Below is a screenshot of a fake page. You will notice that it doesn't have a 'Blue Tick' next to the name 'Si King'. There are instances where a 'post' has a link to a
Bitcoin scam asking for donations to a cancer charity in the name of Dave Myers. Rest assured, this is not genuine in any shape or form." The post went on to say: "How you can help us, firstly, if you have fallen for the fake profile and currently 1000 have, please unfollow this profile page as your information can be sold on. Secondly, please report the fake profile to Facebook. "This is done by clicking on the 3 dots, at the top-right of the offending page. This will open a dropdown box and from there you will see an option to 'Find support or report' Then select ' Pretending to be something' then select 'Celebrity'. Please type in 'Hairy Bikers' and you will see our page name appear in the box. Then please 'Send'. "To add to the confusion, the people behind the scam are copying posts that we are genuinely uploading to our own page. If you all join in and report the fake, Facebook may wake up when they see some 600,000 reports in their inbox. #MarkZuckerberg take note We gratefully appreciate your help and kindness. The TV chef who tragically passed away last month after a brave battle against cancer, left behind his wife Liliana Orzac, his two step-children, and his 57-year-old co-star Si King. The latest Hairy Bikers show - titled The Hairy Bikers Go West - began airing earlier this year before Dave passed away. Viewers tuning in to the final episode were left in tears as Dave and Si discussed their love and admiration for each other in touching scenes. Dave was shown delighting in the fact he and Si had completed their trip around the west coast of the
UK together - as he shared his fears that he would not survive his cancer battle. He said on screen: "At the start, when I found out I was sick, I didn't think I'd ever ride a motorbike again…” Si said: “We planned to go west mate, and we've made it.” And Dave replied: “We have, and it's been tough at times.” He later said: "I had chemotherapy all the time we've been filming. It hasn't been easy... but we've got there, and it's just a wonderful feeling." Fighting back tears, Si said: "We've done it, and more importantly, he's done it… I'm his mate and I love him like family and a brother. It's... I'm just lost for words... It's quite remarkable, what he's done." Seemingly addressing his own mortality, Dave - who never publicly revealed what kind of cancer he was diagnosed with, but battled the disease since 2022 - said to cameras in the closing minute of the show: "Who knows what the future holds? But for the moment, I'm living in the present and it's pretty fine, I tell you." And as credits rolled, Dave’s voice was heard declaring: "The two of us, back together, doing what we do best. Go West really will be a trip to remember." While the episode itself ended with Dave hugging Si, telling him: "I love ya.” A tribute card to Dave also featured at the end of the episode, showing his date of birth and the date of his death. Viewers watching at home were overcome with emotion by the scenes. Taking to X, many commented on the bittersweet nature of the episode. One wrote: "The last lines of Hairy Bikers tonight," along with a broken heart emoji. Another was in tears throughout the show, and typed as the end credits rolled: "I've gone again... this last ever episode of both The Hairy Bikers together for the last time .. and their words." Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years. He continued: "Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own. Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime. "I wish you god’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya. I know Dave and his family would want me to thank all of you who sent messages of support in recent times. It meant the world to him, his family and all The Hairy Bikers team."
