People are losing tons of weight thanks to one inspiring woman – but you may know little about her story. Caroline Balazs, now 54, was working at a GP in Manchester when she was feeling a little down about life. After
BREAKING up with her long-term boyfriend, and having always struggled with dieting, she really wanted to do something that would transform her life. Back in 2017, she confessed she was "always trying to lose weight", then one day a medication came in that people knew very little about. It was a diabetes drug which had just been licensed for , and it led to completely changing her life. Back then, a pharmacist told her to look into "Liraglutide", so she did her research. At the time, nobody had really heard of the brand name – Saxenda – but she was able to get her first Saxenda pen on prescription. Caroline believes she was the first person in the
UK to try it as a licensed product for weight loss, and it led to completely changing her life. In just six weeks, she was 2st lighter, and it went onto become a thriving industry. As well as changing her life, it also helped to transform thousands of lives around the world. She she thought it was "fantastic". By using the injectable pen she was able to quickly shift the weight, and soon her success story starting doing the rounds. News of the "wonder pen" spread around the GP, and all of a sudden "everyone was using it". As time went on, the story gained press attention, and celebs were even contacting Caroline to find out more about it. The hype across the country led to being born. But, what some people don't know is many other people started "jumping on the bandwagon", and began trying to make their own versions of the product. She said they were doing "really well" up until people started flogging knock-off versions, and
Brexit – coupled with the pandemic – also had an impact on business. Suddenly, she went from having celebs sliding into her DMs to watching everything completely fall apart. Speaking to us, Caroline said: "In November 2021 I said 'I had enough – I don't want to do this anymore'. Everything just crumbled, and I went back to the NHS full-time. I lost my house, I went bankrupt. I went from riches to rags again. "The best thing I did was go back to work really. It grounded me again. I was given time to get back to reality." Caroline thought it had all came to an end until she had a phone-call in April 2023. A new product had been developed, and they wanted her to get on board with it. Now Caroline works solely online with a new team. She said she's "hands on with patients and there to help" with anything they need. Not to mention, the drug has also been approved by the NHS, which gave her the confidence to say that she's "not wrong" about how good it is. She said obesity is "not going away", as it's a problem out of our control. Caroline, who now lives in Wales, also claimed there's a bigger clamp down on sales of "copy" products these days, which means it's more regulated, and people are able to block the sale of fakes. In 2024, the focus isn't just placed on making people skinny, as it's also about encouraging people to feel good. She wants people to know it's not just a quick fix, as diet and lifestyle also come into play.
