The Phantom of the Opera writer announced his son Nick Lloyd Webber has died aged 43. Nick passed away following an 18-month-long battle with cancer. In an emotional statement, Andrew said: "I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital. Thank you for all your thoughts during this difficult time." Two days ago, the Oscar-winning composer said Nick was moved to a hospice, reports the Mirror. The Phantom Of The Opera writer said his son was “over the worst of this first bout of pneumonia”. Andrew with son Nick (right), who he revealed is now critically ill (Image: Facebook) The 75-year-old announced.: “We’re all here and the family here has gathered around, it was the right place for us all to be I think.” He previously revealed Nick, who is also a composer, was “critically ill” as a result of his “ghastly” cancer. Nick was also nominated for a Grammy for a musical theatre album alongside his father, Greg Wells and David Zippel for Lord Lloyd-Webber’s Cinderella. He worked on the BBC One series Love, Lies and Records. He also scored the 2021 feature film The Last Bus. He tied the knot with viola player Polly Wiltshire in 2018. Last week, Andrew said his son was hospitalised 18 months ago after he was diagnosed with cancer. "I am absolutely devastated to say that my eldest son Nick is critically ill," Andrew said in a statement. He continued: "We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner.
