Oregon has a lot to sort out on special teams this offseason. Kicker Camden Lewis is back for his fifth and final season, but every other specialist role is changing and UO’s kickoff and punt coverage units have to be overhauled. The Ducks have three new specialists on campus this spring, a kicker, punter and long snapper, so there will be ample competition. After the season-long issues at punter proved so costly last season that role will be more closely watched than usual. Kicker: Camden Lewis, fifth-year senior, 14 for 16 field goals Andrew Boyle, fifth-year redshirt-junior, 75 kickoffs averaging 63.57 yards and 69.33% touchback percentage Grant Meadors, freshman Punter: Ross James, fifth-year redshirt-junior, 41.88 yards per punt OR Alex Bales, fifth-year redshirt-junior, 36 yards per punt OR Luke Dunne, freshman Long snapper: Luke Basso, redshirt-sophomore Nick Duzansky, freshman Holder: Alex Bales, fifth-year redshirt-junior Kickoff return: Kris Hutson, fourth-year junior, 12 returns for 238 yards Bucky Irving, junior, five returns for 123 yards Punt return: Kris Hutson, fourth-year junior, 10 returns for 42 yards Karsten Battles (completed eligibility), Adam Barry (completed eligibility), Lachlan Bruce (entered transfer portal) Colson Brunner, Keller Stafford Oregon has to see dramatic improvement to its special teams units. Punter can’t be a revolving door again. If Luke Dunne can prove capable by the end of spring it will ease a lot of stress on the special teams unit as a whole. UO had a consistent battery in its kicking game the past five years thanks to long snapper Karsten Battles and various punters who served as the holder. Battles moves on and Luke Basso has been readied to take over, yet the Ducks also added Nick Duzansky and have two more long snappers committed to join the competition this offseason. Lewis had another solid year kicking field goals, Andrew Boyle’s kickoffs improved as the year went on and Grant Meadors joins the group this spring. The return games should be wide open this offseason. Kris Hutson handled both roles last season but punt returns have a lot of room for improvement. Bucky Irving came on late as a kickoff returner and that spot could see different players get opportunities as well.
