The former Dons captain threw his weight behind the interim manager earlier this week, insisting he should be given the job until the end of the season at least. Robson is still in the dark as to what is happening in the club’s search for a new boss and how long he will remain in charge, ahead of the weekend clash with Hearts . The 44-year-old and Fleetwood manager Brown know each other well from their time together at Celtic and Scotland. They were also together as part of Aberdeen ’s last interim management team before Jim Goodwin was appointed last season. Modestly Robson said: “He’s a good friend of mine so that’s maybe why he’s saying it. He’s good mate and when we took over in the interim last time he was really good. I’m glad to see how well he is doing down at Fleetwood as it is not an easy league to be in. I’ll maybe send him a text and thank him.” The Aberdeen board met earlier this week to take the next step on their managerial search and to narrow down their candidate list. Robson has stated on numerous occasions that he wants to be a manager but has had no indication whether or not he will get the opportunity at Pittodrie this time around. He said: “No, we are just the same from the last statement, we are just focusing on Saturday right now. It is going on in the background with the board and it is something you would need to ask them about. For me it has been a total focus on this game at Hearts. I sound like a broken record but it genuinely has. “I have just got to try and win Football matches for the club. While I’m here that is the key factor in what we need to do. We want to send fans home happy at quarter to five on a Saturday and it is my job to try and do that for them. I enjoy it and the players enjoy winning games. For me it is a case of focusing on the job and trying to win matches. “That’s what we’re ultimately paid to do.” The former Scotland midfielder could certainly strengthen his own case further with a home win against Hearts. He has steadied the ship and led the Dons back into the top six already and if they can keep the three points at Pittodrie on Saturday then it would see them cut third-placed Hearts’ lead to just four points. Robson is refusing to get carried away and think too far ahead, in terms of what can be achieved this season personally or collectively. He diplomatically said: “That’s something I will think about on Saturday night or Sunday morning to be honest. It must be boring listening to me but that is what I was like as a player and what I’m like as a coach as well. You want to get all the details into the players to make sure you get a result for the club. That’s all I focus on.” Barry Robson and Scott Brown playing for Celtic (Image: AFP/Getty Images) The Red Army will certainly be looking for a much-improved performance from the last time the sides met. Hearts smashed them 5-0 at Tynecastle in one of Goodwin’s final games in charge. Robson is confident this Aberdeen team are in a much better place after back-to-back wins against Livingston and Dundee United. They also beat the Jambos on their last trip to the Granite City, back in October, thanks to goals from Duk and Vicente Besuijen. Aberdeen went into the winter break in third but since then Hearts’ season has taken off while their rivals have plunged the other way. Robson said: “What we’ve been looking at is the last few games and we have improved as a team but we have so much more improvement to come. “We’re looking sharper and we have to keep doing the basics well. If we do that we’ve got a chance but if you take your foot off the gas at any point you know what can happen – we’re coming up against a very good Hearts team.” Aberdeen’s players have had some extra time off because they weren’t in the Scottish Cup. Robson admitted it was important to get the squad ready and recharged for the final push. "We gave the players a couple of days off as we have to be mindful of the stage of the season we’re at,” the interim Aberdeen boss added. Some of them have played more than 30 games and you have to get the balance right. Sometimes less is more so we’ve tried to be mindful of that. “But we’ve also made sure we still get our points across in how we want to do things and the boys have been working hard with a good intensity and tempo since coming back. So we’re pleased with that.” Three points and Brown might not be the only former Aberdeen star calling for Robson to get a chance to become the club’s next manager.
