Starbucks has announced plans to open a further 100 new stores in the
UK over the next year. The coffee chain said it would be spending £30million on the project and the new branches would be a mixture of company-operated and franchised stores. Following a significant investment in its drive-thru network last year, Starbucks currently has 1,168 UK stores of these, 354 were company-operated and 814 were run by licensees. Starbucks currently operates 340 UK drive-thru sites. This is the second year in a row the coffee chain has committed to opening 100 new stores in the UK having done so in March 2023. Starbucks confirmed that it had achieved this goal in its October 2023 financial updates. Starbucks did note that footfall in the UK continues to be negatively impacted by the cost of living crisis and said its outlet growth over the next year will focus on key drive-thru and high-footfall city centre locations. In its release, Starbucks said: “Strong, resilient revenue growth continued, even with challenging economic headwinds in the UK. Investment in drive thru stores and digital channels such as mobile order and pay systems, delivery services, and improvements to the loyalty program which saw a 100% increase in 90-day active membership going from 600,000 to 1.2million, has continued to go from strength to strength.” Martin Lewis issues urgent 'bad news' warning to energy customers of

Whilst we are cautious about the macro-economic environment, we will continue to invest to grow the region this year."
