After an awards season with very few surprises, this year’s
Oscars provided us with a fair few, after Parasite made history with its four wins.

The latest film from Bong Joon-ho was already an Oscars trail-blazer, becoming the first South Korean film to be recognised by the Film Academy, but on Sunday night, it was also awarded Best Picture, the first film not in the English language to receive the distinction.
What’s more, Bong Joon-ho beat frontrunner Sam Mendes in the Best Director category, with the
British filmmaker having previously received the distinction for 1917 at both the
Golden Globes and Baftas.
Elsewhere, 1917 walked away with three awards, while Joaquin Phoenix, Renée Zellweger, Laura Dern and
