Saturday can only be described as “cataclysmic.”
That’s because Oct. 29 is National Cat Day, an annual event when cat people take a moment for fussing over their felines in order to celebrate that most enigmatic of domestic companions.
To a cat lover, every kitty is special. But there are a few lucky felines who have that little something extra: A Guinness World Record.
Take a look at these record-setting cats that each are “purr-fect” in their own way.
Most Tricks Done By A Cat In 1 MinuteAs any cat owner knows, getting them to do even one trick is hard, so 20 is really impressive. As the video above shows, Didga, a cat based in Tweed Heads, NSW, Australia, is able to do everything from rolling over to jumping over a bar while on a skateboard.
Longest Fur On A Cat Sophie Smith, a black-and-white cat owned by Jami Smith of Oceanside, California, owns the title for Cat With The Longest Fur. Her luxurious fur was measured at 10.11 inches in November 2013.
Shortest Cat (Living) Lilieput, a 9-year-old female Munchkin cat from Napa, California, is the shortest living cat. She measures 5.25 inches from the floor to the shoulder. She is just 1.1 centimeters taller than a Coca-Cola can.
World’s Tallest Domestic Cat Ever Recorded Savannah Islands Trouble, of Walnut Grove, California, was 19 inches tall when measured from paw to shoulder. Trouble, as she was known, died in August 2012, but remains the tallest domestic cat ever recorded.
World’s Longest Cat Ludo, a Maine Coon from Wakefield, U.K., is the world’s longest cat, measuring at 3 feet, 10.59 inches. Owner Kelsey Gill says Ludo’s immense size is an advantage in that she can always find him.
Loudest Purr Merlin, a rescue kitty from Devon, U.K., has plenty to make a noise about: He owns the Guinness World Records title for the loudest purr by a domestic cat. Merlin’s purr is more like a roar, registering 67.8 decibels. That’s about as loud as an air conditioner. You can hear just how loud he is in the video below.
