The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is being rolled out to users of the flagship Microsoft OS right now and its release date earlier this week.
The Redmond-based tech giant are releasing the update to users of Windows 10 progressively, with some getting an automatic download notification earlier than others.
The big headline features for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update have been heavily touted and promoted by Microsoft.
Windows 10 fans are likely aware of the new Timeline feature, the Fluent Design system and the support for mixed reality devices.
But there’s one brand new feature the Fall Creators Update brings that seems to have come under the radar.
Microsoft have slipped a new feature into the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update that will have a big impact on users.
The new TruePlay feature in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update was first discovered by VG247.
It’s a brand new gaming feature that Microsoft have included in the latest Windows 10 update to catch and combat cheaters in PC games.
As explained in the MSDN for the feature, TruePlay can run a “protected process” in games.
This will monitor gaming sessions for any manipulations carried out as a user cheats.
TruePlay will then generate an alert and share data with developers when cheating is detected.
Microsoft said: “A game enrolled in TruePlay will run in a protected process, which mitigates a class of common attacks.
“Additionally, a Windows service will monitor gaming sessions for behaviours and manipulations that are common in cheating scenarios.
“These data will be collected, and alerts will be generated only when cheating behaviour appears to be occurring.
“To ensure and protect customer privacy while preventing false positives, these data are only shared with developers after processing has determined cheating is likely to have occurred.”
Microsoft said developers can choose to exclude for monitoring certain parts of a game.
This suggests that the TruePlay feature is more geared towards preventing cheating in online modes as opposed to single player.
Users can turn the TruePlay feature off altogether themselves, but doing this prevents them from playing parts of a game that require it to be turned on.
It’s not the only gaming update that Microsoft has made this week.
Earlier this week the Xbox One was given a huge new Windows 10 update for autumn.
The Xbox One update lets you personalise your Home, features an improved Guide, more notifications and a performance boost.
There's even a hidden speed boost available to owners of the Xbox One with Kinect.
Xbox One no longer asks for further confirmation when you try to turn it off with your voice.
It's only a small update, but it saves users a few extra seconds, and further proves that Kinect only ever made life more difficult.
The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update had its official release date on Tuesday.
However, it’s being rolled out progressively - which means that some users will get an automatic notification to upgrade earlier than others.
The automatic download route is the way Microsoft advises Windows 10 users to upgrade to the Fall Creators Update.
However, there is a way to upgrade to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update manually - but this is only advised for “advanced” users.
You can use the Update Assistant on the Software Download Site to manually get the Fall Creators Update from day one.
Once you’re on the Software Download Site just click the Update Now button to begin the process.
If you’d rather a more simpler update process, then you can simply wait to receive an automatic notification that your update is ready to download.
In a recent blog post, Microsoft said: "For the best experience, we recommend you wait until Windows 10 is automatically offered to your device.
"You don’t have to do anything to get the update; it will roll out automatically to you through Windows Update if you’ve chosen to have updates installed automatically on your device.
"Once the download is complete and the update is ready to install, we’ll check with you, so you can pick the right time to finish the installation and reboot.
"We do this so we can ensure the update does not disrupt you, and we use active hours to help suggest a good time."
