Little Mix has weighed in on the drama going down between
Nicki Minaj and
Cardi B.
It all started when Minaj discussed her bad blood with Cardi on her Beats 1 Queen Radio show, and Cardi responded with a collection of Instagram videos Monday (Oct. 29). In her eighth consecutive post, the 26-year-old "I Like It" singer said, “That 'Woman Like Me' record? Yeah, I had to decline it because I'm doing a lot of pop records, so I can’t, you know, over-exaggerate myself. But that came to me first, and then they give it to you.”
Indeed, Minaj is featured on the girl group's new single "Woman Like Me," and in a new social media post, the band contradicted Cardi's comments by confirming that Minaj's contribution had always been a part of their plans.
“We love and respect both Nicki and Cardi B,” the band said in a Twitter statement Tuesday morning (Oct. 30). “Both were approached by our label to work with us on Woman Like Me, Nicki then Cardi. We went with Nicki because like we’ve said over and over for years, it’s been a dream of ours to work with her since the beginning. We have nothing but love and positivity for both Nicki and Cardi.”
The girl group also took to Instagram to reinforce the same message. “We just want to clarify,” they wrote, “Nicki was approached first.” The post contained a picture that stated, “Sorry Cardi hun but this is the T. We’ve always wanted the queen.” It also featured a screenshot of a WhatsApp Chat conversation discussing the single and a video montage of Little Mix talking about how they wanted to collaborate with Minaj during various interviews.
Meanwhile, Minaj and Cardi seem to have settled things for the moment. Minaj tweeted, “Let’s focus on positive things only from here on out,” and Cardi shared a screenshot of the tweet via Instagram. “@Nickiminaj alright then!” she wrote. “Let’s keep it positive and keep it pushing!”
