Elon Musk has deleted the
Facebook pages of both Tesla and
SpaceX after being challenged to do so by his
Twitter followers.
The pages of his SpaceX and Tesla companies, which both had around 2.6 million followers, are currently inactive.
The shock move came after one Twitter user, @serdarsprofile, tweeted the billionaire: “Delete SpaceX page on Facebook if you're the man?”
Musk quickly responded: "I didn’t realize there was one. Will do."
Shortly afterwards another Twitter user questioned whether the Tesla page should still be online, to which Musk responded: "Definitely. Looks lame anyway."
It appears as though the Tesla-owned Solar City page has also been removed.
The news comes after a particularly tough week for Facebook, with chief executive Mark Zuckerberg forced to admit the social network "made mistakes" that led to millions of Facebook users having their data exploited by a political consultancy. In his statement posted on Facebook, he promised to make it far harder for apps to "harvest" user information.
"We have a responsibility to protect your data, and if we can't then we don't deserve to serve you," Mr Zuckerberg said.
