Hollywood trades last week that he was being eyed to play Springsteen, but the casting is not yet 100 percent official. Scott Cooper is set to write and direct Deliver Me From Nowhere . The project will find the filmmaker returning to a story about a musician for the first time since his celebrated 2009 debut, Crazy Heart , in which Jeff Bridges played a floundering former country star looking to turn his life back around. (The movie was based on Thomas Cobb’s 1987 novel of the same name, with the main character Otis “Bad” Blake loosely modeled on country star Hank Thompson.) “I once read that Nebraska is an album that moves you to the marrow of your bones. I couldn’t agree more,” Cooper said in a statement. “Bruce Springsteen, and Nebraska , in particular, have had a profound impact on me and my work.
